| Why did I choose to become an Associate of Amazon.com? It was not because their selection is good and their prices better, but because their customer service, while not perfect, is very attentive. I ordered two books on a Thursday afternoon and chose two-day UPS for shipping in the hope that they would arrive before I left on a week-long vacation the following Tuesday. By Saturday the books, which had both been listed as "available immediately," still had not been boxed up, so of course they did not arrive in time. I let it slide without complaint when I found that one of the books was signed by the author (and at a 30% discount off the cover price). The clincher, though, was when my next order quietly received a complimentary upgrade to USPS Next Day. I never said a word, and Amazon.com treated me well anyway — not bad for faceless e-commerce.
