Sturges, the first white settler of a ninety-acre farm that extended from this site eastward. The farm adjacent to the south was settled by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/kevinforsyth.net\/ELMAC\/bigelow\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1124\">Horace Bigelow<\/a>&nbsp;in that same year. The section line trail that became Hagadorn Road was initially \u201cbrushed out\u201d north of Grand River Avenue by Sturges and Bigelow.<sup data-fn=\"af0d448d-09fd-4042-987d-c42f8f49a045\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#af0d448d-09fd-4042-987d-c42f8f49a045\" id=\"af0d448d-09fd-4042-987d-c42f8f49a045-link\">1<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">In 1860 John Putnam Marble purchased the land along with another fifty acres to the west, and donated a portion of that land to establish a school district. As a result the surrounding local community took on the Marble name and the first&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/kevinforsyth.net\/ELMAC\/marble-school\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1081\">Marble School<\/a>&nbsp;was soon built across the road.<sup data-fn=\"1327dd22-8d80-4e52-8f37-2e9c3dd436d2\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#1327dd22-8d80-4e52-8f37-2e9c3dd436d2\" id=\"1327dd22-8d80-4e52-8f37-2e9c3dd436d2-link\">2<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">J. P. Marble\u2019s daughter, Mary Angela Sophia Marble, married Warren Burcham in 1872.
