Childs created this house, one of his earliest designs, for his in-laws Samuel and Lucy Cochrane.\u00a0After their deaths in 1914\u201315, it became Harold and Ethel (Cochrane) Childs\u2019 own residence. Their daughter, Lelle Childs Robertson, owned and lived in the home for decades until her death at age 88 in 2001.<sup data-fn=\"213efd19-84d6-4298-b3bb-2ec13cab748c\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#213efd19-84d6-4298-b3bb-2ec13cab748c\" id=\"213efd19-84d6-4298-b3bb-2ec13cab748c-link\">1<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Harold Childs also designed the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/kevinforsyth.net\/ELMAC\/orchard-street-pumphouse\/\">Orchard Street Pumphouse<\/a>\u00a0\u201cand several other structures in Greater Lansing, including the Reuter House in Eaton Rapids\u201d (now the English Inn). The Childs house, along with a modest foursquare across the street at 338 M.A.C. Avenue, remained in the family as of 2019. Both are now rental properties.<sup data-fn=\"67ac0f03-4573-41b8-8822-1b779118a09b\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#67ac0f03-4573-41b8-8822-1b779118a09b\" id=\"67ac0f03-4573-41b8-8822-1b779118a09b-link\">2<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><em>Note that although the assertion that Childs was the architect of this house comes from city records and historic commission documents,\u00a0recent sources have called that provenance into question.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The H. A.
