The cross-street at the south end of this plat is not evident today, if it ever existed at all, but lots 16 and 61 (left unnumbered on this map) have since been cut through to extend Oak Ridge Avenue to the east and west.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Just west of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/kevinforsyth.net\/ELMAC\/chesterfield-hills\/\">Chesterfield Hills<\/a>, a twenty-acre portion of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/kevinforsyth.net\/ELMAC\/cowley-1907\/\">John H. Cowley<\/a>&nbsp;farm was acquired by the \u201cOak Ridge Land Company\u201d in 1919 for development. Officers of the company included <a href=\"https:\/\/kevinforsyth.net\/ELMAC\/schepers\/\">Jacob Schepers<\/a>&nbsp;as president, <a href=\"https:\/\/kevinforsyth.net\/ELMAC\/east-lansing-state-bank\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"498\">East Lansing State Bank<\/a> cashier A. J. Nash as secretary-treasurer, and <a href=\"https:\/\/kevinforsyth.net\/ELMAC\/hudson\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1316\">Grant Hudson<\/a> and M.A.C. athletic director Chester Brewer among its board of directors. Oak Ridge was soon advertized as having \u201c113 lots to sell\u201d in a plat where \u201call streets are boulevarded.\u201d<sup data-fn=\"a146e0aa-9668-481c-8b61-05acaac1708f\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#a146e0aa-9668-481c-8b61-05acaac1708f\" id=\"a146e0aa-9668-481c-8b61-05acaac1708f-link\">1<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The plat encompasses Highland Avenue from Grand River Avenue south to Oak Ridge Avenue, and Cowley Avenue to about 223 and 236 Cowley. It\u2019s not clear what exactly happened here\u2014by the time Oak Ridge was annexed into the City of East Lansing on April 7, 1924, it consisted of just 74 lots, had ordinary streets without boulevards, and Schepers was the notary for the plat document but not an officer of the Oak Ridge Land Company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Oak Ridge is not listed among the City\u2019s historic districts, although it contains many homes in a variety of cozy, pleasant styles from the 1920s and 1930s. There are no historic houses in Oak Ridge\u2014except, technically speaking, the <a href=\"https:\/\/kevinforsyth.net\/ELMAC\/stoddard\/\">Johnson\u2013Stoddard House<\/a>, the majority of which stands on Oak Ridge\u2019s Lot 1.<\/p>\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-footnotes\"><li id=\"a146e0aa-9668-481c-8b61-05acaac1708f\"><a href=\"https:\/\/kevinforsyth.net\/ELMAC\/sources\/#LSJ\">LSJ<\/a>, 12\u00a0Sep\u00a01919, p.\u00a025. <a href=\"#a146e0aa-9668-481c-8b61-05acaac1708f-link\" aria-label=\"Jump to footnote reference 1\">\u21a9\ufe0e<\/a><\/li><\/ol>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just west of&nbsp;Chesterfield Hills, a twenty-acre portion of the&nbsp;John H.
